Vibram Nilgiri Dual density sole for a better comfort and a design with an excellent grip suitable on all the terrains. It is highly abrasion resistant and the Shock Absorber is in the heel to mitigate the high impact areas on the foot. Contains Asoframe, which is a single molded structure combining the midsole, heelcounter and toebox. Various plastic formulae are used to alter the stiffness of the boot giving varying performance characteristics for each model. The Ascent sole is lightweight and solid with the Asolo/Vibram signature, which is a design that improves compatibility with semi automatic crampons. Rubber sole and a dual-density microporous rubber midsole. The rigidity of the PU allows compatibility with crampons. The profile contains a self cleaning design with the Asobrake for superior grip when descending. Shoe weighs gr. 1.200 Asolo: Flame on! Not like it matters, but the styling on this boot is pretty cool. While the yellow & orange (Grey/Aranthracite style) won't lighten your load on the trail, they may help draw attention to your stylish footgear… which may attract you to trail bunnies! All in all this is a good light hiking/short-haul backpacking boot. The rubber toe patch is worth the purchase just because no one else offers this anymore. They fit well out of the box and have good ankle & arch support. I'm a little worried about the grommets across the instep. They have a swivel feature that seems like it could break off if you bashed your foot into a rock really hard. The padding at the very top is on the thin side, so socks with padded uppers may be a good combo. The size was slightly larger than the Raichle boots I've been used to wearing. I would say it’s only a 1/4 size difference. Nothing the right socks can't address. Asolo Attiva GTX - This was the only boot that was long enough that my toes don't slam the front going downhill and I was able to cinch them tight enough with heavy weight trekking socks that they were narrow enough. My first trip out with them was a 35 mile backpacking trip in Yosemite over Labor Day weekend. They worked out great! They are very stiff heavy duty boots. I love the Vibram soles and the Asobrake. They grip really well. I'd definitely recommend them. -- Awesome boots - I've been wearing Asolos for years, every day, because I need the side support due to very flat feet. This new model is the best yet! No break in time at all, as comfortable as can be from day one. I add arch supports of my own, so I can't comment on the arch supports in the boots.
